European Governance (GE) distance learning course

Presentation

The "European Governance" distance learning diploma specialization is directly inspired by the classroom system.

The European Governance program is part of the School of European Governance. Students become specialists in the European Union, its workings and activities, and develop knowledge and skills useful in any organization with a European dimension, at local, national, European or international level.

This distance learning program enables students in initial training in another discipline or specialty to obtain a double degree. It also enables employees to pursue lifelong learning as part of their continuing education.

The IEP diploma is awarded in two years (A4 & A5).

Training

The first year (A4) covers the theoretical fundamentals of integration, while the second year (A5) deals with much more practical aspects of training.

In the 5th year, students can choose between a career path and a research path. The research track enables students to write a dissertation and/or to consider moving on to a doctoral thesis. Access to this pathway is selective.

The "European Governance" distance learning course is multi-disciplinary: law, economics, political science, sociology and history.

For the 2025-2026 academic year:

Start of training: mid-October 2025.
End of training: end of August / beginning of September 2026.

Students are assessed by means of continuous assessments (to be handed in during the semester), as well as by end-of-semester exam periods (3 days at the end of January/beginning of February, then at the end of May/beginning of June, and possibly 3 days at the end of August in the case of catch-up exams) on the premises of Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA. Attendance at exams is compulsory.

Teaching materials are made available via an e-learning platform (Chamilo). You have the flexibility to work at your own pace, taking into account your personal and/or professional constraints, as long as you respect the course's obligations and important dates (an academic calendar and deadlines must be respected).

Teaching aids are available 24/7.

Students receive dedicated administrative and pedagogical support.

Each A4 and A5 training year consists of 60 credits. The years are spread over two semesters in the academic year.

Please note: All courses are compulsory. If you are absent from a class (for ongoing tests or end-of-semester exams), you must justify your absence to the course secretariat.

Teaching methods

The "European Governance" distance learning program is delivered via a teaching platform and offers each student administrative and pedagogical support.

The training calendar is posted online at the start of the academic year.

Courses can be synchronous, with videoconferencing enabling real-time exchanges with teachers, or asynchronous, enabling students to learn independently and at their own pace, using the teaching resources available 24/7 on the e-learning platform (course materials, videos, various appendices, etc.).

Career opportunities

Job opportunities in the public sector are to be found in local authorities, the civil service of the State, the European Union and international organizations (where the EU is represented). Students are trained to become: European project managers, administrators in European institutions, European affairs advisors in ministries, assistants to members of parliament, European project managers in local authorities or chambers of commerce and industry, etc.

Among private-sector outlets, "European Governance" prepares students in particular for careers as lobbyists, competitive intelligence analysts and European affairs officers in companies, professional federations, trade unions, associations, NGOs, think tanks and consulting firms.

Every year, a number of "European Governance" students are admitted to prestigious institutions for further study: College of Europe (Bruges or Natolin campus in Warsaw), European University Institute in Florence, Grandes Ecoles (ESSEC, ESCP, etc.), prestigious universities (London School of Economics, King's College, etc.).
