What do we know about Grenoble? A green city, a polluted city, a dangerous city, a technological city, a sporting city, an ugly city...
Beyond clichés and media representations, what are the sociological characteristics of this medium-sized city? This book paints a sociological portrait of the socio-demographic, economic, urban, political, and cultural characteristics of the city and its populations. It shows that while Grenoble has all the hallmarks of a large city, with its major research centers, high-tech companies, and high concentration of executives and engineers, it also seems to share the associated problems: pollution, crime, and inequality. Nevertheless, the city has historically distinguished itself as a meeting place for the political, scientific, and industrial worlds, which have built a reputation as a laboratory for innovations of all kinds.
Sociologie de Grenoble offers an in-depth discussion of this rewriting, drawing on extensive socioeconomic data, the latest social science research on the region, and original surveys conducted in collaboration with faculty members and students from the sociology department at the University of Grenoble Alpes.

Mountain sports in the Sports Code: what are the foundations and what changes are needed?
Certain legal texts governingmountain sports contain peculiarities that may appear to contradict higher principles of law. Complaints and even legal disputes are on the rise. What are the reasons for this situation? What are the issues at stake and what changes should be considered?
• Round table no. 2:
Sexual abuse: how can French skiing emerge from this turmoil?
The public revelation of sexual abuse committed over decades against female competitors has sent shockwaves through the skiing world. The fallout extends to questioning the entire governance of French skiing. What malfunctions have been identified? What new governance model and preventive measures should be put in place for the future?
• Round table no. 3:
The 2030 Olympic Games: for whom and for what?
The organization of the Winter Olympics in France in 2030, supported by the AURA and PACA regions and by the government, is being challenged both on its merits and for its decision-making process. Citizen groups and associations are taking the case to court. What are the arguments of both sides? How can the 2030 Winter Olympics be made into an event that brings people together and is in the public interest?
• Round table no. 4:
Ecological transition: things are heating up in the resorts.
The challenges of transitioning the mountain economy are generating conflict in the valleys and resorts. Development projects supported by elected officials are being delayed, rejected, or even canceled by administrative authorities or court decisions, following challenges brought by citizen groups and associations. What are the obstacles? How can we resolve these conflicts? What new "Mountain Plan" can bring the population together around a common goal?
