"La droitisation française. Mythe et réalités" by Vincent Tiberj (professor of political science at Sciences Po Bordeaux) deconstructs the idea of a "bottom-up right-wingization" of society. By cross-referencing opinion surveys and electoral results, the book shows a growing gap between citizens who are rather stable - or even more tolerant of certain values - and those who vote more to the right.
Rightism" thus functions above all as a performative myth: a public narrative that influences the agenda, partisan offerings and, ultimately, political balances. Vincent Tiberj warns of the very real political effects of an erroneous diagnosis, and invites us to rethink representation and participation methods in order to reduce the gap between society and the ballot box.
