Study day "Prisons of the world and institutional categories: Crossed perspectives on 'groups' in detention".
CERDAP² is pleased to invite you to a study day on "Prisons of the world and institutional categories: Crossed perspectives on 'groups' in detention". This study day will explore how institutional categories influence prison policies and the reality of detainees around the world. Based on the analysis of national situations on several continents (Europe, Africa, Asia) and the cross-fertilization of academic research and professional practices (justice professionals, aid workers, NGOs), this study day intends to initiate questioning on the relevance, limits and effects of institutional categories in detention.
The first round table will look at the test of categorizations in national policies and prison experiences. The focus will be on the situation of elderly people in detention in Japan and the UK, and on trans people in prison in France and Switzerland.
The second round table will look at the international issues surrounding prison categorizations, their relevance, effectiveness and impact. The discussion will focus in particular on the influence of categorizations on the programs of international donors and their use in NGO tools.
