AI in healthcare: diabetes reveals a North-South divide.
From October 13 to 16, Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA is hosting Crisis Week: four evenings of lectures, every day from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, to explore major contemporary issues together.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in healthcare: early diagnosis algorithms, automated administration of chronic treatments, miniaturized and more efficient medical devices. These innovations hold out the promise of more precise, more personalized medicine, but they also reveal a deep technological divide between high-income countries and low- and middle-income countries.
Diabetes is an excellent tracer of this technological divide. Through the example of the use of AI in the prevention and management of diabetes, we will explore the challenges of this technological revolution and the fractures it may entail for healthcare systems and patients between countries in the North and South.
