High-level sports students at Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA

The status of top-level student athlete means that you can benefit from special support measures to help you pursue your higher education and reconcile your studies with your sporting career in the best possible conditions.

Support systems

Grenoble Alpes University (UGA), Grenoble INP and Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA support high-level sports students in their dual academic and sporting projects. The status of top-level sports student opens up rights in terms of support and implies duties for the student.

STUDENTS AND ELITE ATHLETES AT SCIENCES PO GRENOBLE - UGA

Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA  offers special support to high-level sports students. This status entitles them to a range of benefits during their studies at Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA (absences tolerated for competitions, help with catching up on courses, timetable adjustments, two-year study arrangements, etc.). Some of these students particularly distinguished themselves in 2017-2018, both at university and federal level. They are also particularly involved in the sports life of Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA.

Thomas NABAIS - Ice dancing

I joined Sciences Po in 2023 in A4 Cultural Project Management, after obtaining my SHA degree from UGA. Benefiting from ESHN status and the Inter'Val scheme, I'm doing my 4th year in two years. A member of the French ice dance team, I've been skating for 9 years with my partner, who is also a student at UGA. The 2023/24 season is now over and we're already preparing for the next one.

Julie BAVEREL - Biathlon

I discovered biathlon in competition at the age of 13, without knowing that this adventure would guide my life project a few years later. Today, I compete on the national circuit in the U22 category, and I'm determined to pursue this experience as far as I can.

I was lucky enough to get into Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA in 2022, and to be able to complete my first year in two years. I'm deeply grateful to be able to carry out this double project, an experience that allows me to evolve in an enriching environment, whether from an intellectual or sporting point of view. As part of the second year of mobility offered by the Sciences Po curriculum, the adventure continues for me in Oslo. I've been offered a place on the Holmenkollen Biathlon team for the coming season (2024-25), with whom I'll be taking part in the Norwegian National Cup.

Objectives

With a change of category last September (I'm now a U23), my short-term goals are to take part in the French Elite (=senior) and U23 championships (where I aim to reach the final).
In the medium term, having been a U23 for 3 years (before moving up to Senior), I intend to make the most of the next two years (which will involve staggering my curriculum) to be among the best U23s and take part in the European U23 championships next year.
Finally, in the longer term, my aim is to take part in international Senior championships as part of the French team.

Maëla DIDIER - Nordic Combined

I entered Sciences Po in 2020. Thanks to the Inter'Val program, adapted to the constraints of top-level skiers, I was able to take my courses entirely at a distance. Indeed, our National Training Center is located in Prémanon, in the Jura, and during the season, it is absolutely impossible to come to the university every day. So I was the first top-level ski racer to join IEP, under the Inter'Val scheme. I did my first year in two years, so that I could combine training, courses and competitions with my university commitments.

My second year was spent in Innsbruck, Austria, where I discovered new training methods, a different culture and perfected my German. Sciences Po supported me in my choice of destination, and I was also able to obtain accommodation for my status as a high-level sportswoman at my host university. Everything went very well there, and the teachers were also very understanding of my sporting constraints, and I managed to complete my second year in one year.

I'm currently in my third year at Sciences Po, but I decided to pursue my sporting career in Innsbruck, as the Austrian training methods suit me much better. I've also found a real balance between my sporting, student and social life, which I didn't have in France. I spread my third year over two years, like the first, in order to obtain sufficient results to enable me to do the master's degree of my choice: I therefore have one year of licence left. Sciences Po really supported me in my project, and the director of studies organized all my courses so that I could follow them remotely.

I regularly come to Grenoble to take my exams, but everything is done to ensure that this does not interfere with my sporting commitments, and I am very grateful to the IEP for this.

Objectives

I started the 2024-2025 season at the beginning of May. This month is more about getting back into ski jumping. The summer phase (May to October) consists of preparation for the winter competitions, but a few competitions are organized during the summer: we have a circuit of national competitions in July/August, then in October. I'll also be taking part in the Austrian competitions to compare myself with the world's best.

November is all about getting back into cross-country skiing, with courses on glaciers or in Nordic countries. Then, from December onwards, winter competitions resume regularly until the end of March. Which competitions I take part in will depend on my progress during the summer season, but the aim is to take part in international competitions, such as the World Cup B circuit. I'm also thinking of taking part in some long-distance ski races, to perfect my technique and compare myself with athletes who "only" do cross-country skiing, which is always very instructive. We've also got the World Championships coming up in Trondheim, Norway, at the end of February, but that will depend on my results at the start of the winter!

Lorna MALOSSANE - Judo

I joined Science Po Grenoble - UGA in September 2022 following my baccalauréat with honors in HGGSP - S.E.S option Mathématiques and under the status of high-level sportswoman on the ministerial list, at the Marseilleveyre high school in Marseille.

I benefit from special schooling arrangements, doing my A1 in two years and having a note-taking aid.
This is a great help to me. I can train several times a day, all week long, take part in competitions and training courses, and continue my medical check-up, while still having a normal school life and being able to pursue my local and regional commitments with Amnesty International France.

I underwent an operation during the first part of my A1 (2022-2023) and IEP's support for top-level sportsmen and women enabled me to cope with this ordeal.

I returned to competition in the second half of my A1 (2023-2024) and joined the Grenoble University Pole after having been at the Pôle Espoir and Pôle France in Marseille.
