General overview

The Prép'A program is run by the Center for Preparation for General Administration (C.P.A.G.), the "competitive exam" expertise center at Sciences Po Grenoble – UGA.

Its hybrid format is based on structured educational engineering designed for distance learning. Prép'A is not Education online" Education in the passive sense of the term: it is based on real support, regular exchanges, and a collective dynamic.

Education is geared more towards state public administration, but the core syllabus can be useful in preparing for other competitive examinations.

The Education to the award of a "Prép'A" diploma (no European credits/ECTS).

Distance learning combines asynchronous content (video clips, structured materials, guided exercises) and synchronous time (video conferences, group discussions, corrections).

The program is based on a dedicated digital platform (tool: Moodle), organized in an ergonomic way, allowing learners to progress at their own pace while benefiting from a structured framework.

Most content is accessible upon registration. Only the topics of assignments are not known in advance in order to maintain the progressive nature of learning.

Face-to-face sessions are devoted to activities with high educational value: intensive training, role-playing, mock oral exams. They are optional and their content is systematically transferred to the platform so that it can be accessed at a later date by those who were unable to attend (written reports, mini-podcasts, video recordings, etc.).

CALENDAR FOR THE YEAR

Educational engineering designed for success

Prép’A was designed according to demanding educational engineering principles:

  • structured progression of learning;
  • granularization of content to promote assimilation;
  • alternating between expository and active methods;
  • regular training sessions and personalized feedback;
  • individualized support ("coaching") throughout the year.

The objective is twofold: to consolidate fundamental learning and develop the skills required to perform managerial duties in public administration (analysis, structuring, argumentation, professional conduct).

The learning community is a central element of the program: forums, interactive sessions, group meetings, and coaching help to create a stimulating and supportive environment.

Program: Education leading to a degree

The Prep'A program is structured into 10 modules (6 subject-specific modules and 4 cross-disciplinary modules), which can be taken together or individually.

Upon completion of all modules, students will receive an institutional diploma (not ECTS credits; this is neither a bachelor's nor a master's degree). This institutional diploma can be obtained by completing all modules within a maximum of three consecutive years.

The validation of individual modules results in a corresponding certificate of completion.

Enrollment in the Education allows students to complete an optional internship. An internship agreement will then be drawn up.

Prépa Talents label (optional add-on)

La Education has been awarded the Prépa Talents label. Prépa Talents is a government scheme designed to strengthen equality of opportunity by giving as many people as possible the chance to prepare for the competitive entrance exams to the civil service, anywhere in the country and under the best possible conditions. By combating self-censorship, it aims to diversify the senior civil service.

The Prépa Talents program is open to students preparing for external and third-level competitive entrance exams, on the basis of merit and social criteria. It is conditional on attendance at Education and effective registration for at least one civil service competitive examination during the year of Education.

It gives access to :

  • free Education,
  • a scholarship of €5,000 per year, which can be combined with a potential CROUS scholarship or a potential re-entry-to-work allowance,
  • enhanced academic support in the form of personalized tutoring,
  • additional one-time assistance (purchase of books, travel expenses to attend an exam, loan of a computer, etc.).

Otherwise, Prépa Talents students are in the same classes and take the same courses as other preparatory students. It is therefore a program that complements the curriculum itself. Prép'A is thus open to both Prépa Talents students and students who are not part of the Prépa Talents program.

It is possible to be a Talent Prep student for two consecutive years, subject to attendance and commitment in the first year, and subject to the government maintaining the scheme.

Please note: You can only apply to the Prépa Talents program if you are enrolled in the entire Prép'A program. You cannot apply if you are enrolled in only certain modules of the Prép'A program.

FAQ Talent Prep

There are three requirements you must meet to be eligible—that is, for your application to be considered:

  • Apply for the entire Prép'A program, not just certain modules;
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for the relevant civil service exams (citizenship, educational qualifications, etc.). It is your responsibility to verify this;
  • Income-based criteria: If you are receiving a Crous income-based grant for the academic year in which you enroll in Prép'A, you are eligible. If you are unsure, use the eligibility checker at https://www.lescrous.fr/nos-services/simulateur-de-bourse/. If the simulation shows that you would be eligible for a CROUS scholarship, then you are eligible for the Prépa Talents program. If the simulation results in a negative outcome, you are not eligible, so there is no point in applying to the Prépa Talents program.

Applications are evaluated based on factors such as the quality of Education background, skills, motivation, and the level of maturity of their career plans.

In the event of a tie, priority is given to applicants who reside in, or who earned their high school diploma or a higher-level degree in, a priority neighborhood under the urban policy, a rural revitalization zone, or an overseas territory, as well as to job seekers, particularly long-term unemployed individuals.

To apply for the Prépa Talents program, you must submit a separate Prépa Talents application in addition to your Prép'A application, following the same timeline as Prép'A applications and using the same application platform.

Since the Talents Prep Program is a supplementary program to Prép'A, you must apply to Prép'A if you also wish to apply to the Talents Prep Program. In other words, you cannot apply solely to the Talents Prep Program. It is possible to be admitted to Prép'A without being admitted to the Talents Prep Program.

Details regarding the documents to be submitted will be provided on the competition platform. To help you prepare your application in advance, the application package must include:

  • a cover letter specifically for the Prépa Talents program. It should explain what you are specifically looking for through the program (e.g., what kind of profile you’re seeking in your future Prépa Talents tutor and what you would ask of them, since each student has their own needs). It should therefore not be a copy-and-paste of your cover letter for admission to Prép’A,
  • the application form for the Prépa Talents program (available on the admissions portal)
  • proof of your financial situation. The specific list is included in the Prépa Talents application form. For example, depending on your situation: scholarship notification for the coming year, proof of residence issued within the last three months, merit-based scholarships (including those from previous years), specific annual allowances, secondary school scholarships, status as a ward of the state, proof from France Travail indicating the start date or duration of registration and dated within the last month, etc.

Applying for the Talent Prep program is free of charge.

Job opportunities

In addition to strengthening administrative skills and developing personal culture, Prép'A helps prepare students for the following competitive exams:

  • Public service institutes (ISP, e.g., regional institutes of administration)

  • Public finance inspection

  • Administrative attaché and administrative secretary for education and higher education

  • The content and methods provided can be usefully supplemented by independent work to prepare for other competitive examinations, such as attaché, director of youth protection services, etc.
