“In January 2024, we felt we’d done our part and that the project had come to an end,” says Yann Echinard, an associate professor at Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA. It was during a meeting with the project’s many collaborators that the flame was reignited: “When we discussed it with our partners, they all told us, to our great surprise, ‘Absolutely not, we must continue; the fight isn’t over.’”
To raise awareness of disability in Isère, advance the rights of people with disabilities, help change societal attitudes, challenge existing practices, and promote social inclusion, Le Fil rouge, Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA, and HandiRéseaux38 have launched the website Films and Disability. The platform, accessible to people with disabilities, offers documentaries, profiles, training resources, and local news. Since 2009, about ten films have been produced. They cover a variety of topics: aging, emotional well-being, and personal life stories.
The steering committee, composed of institutional stakeholders, local governments, nonprofit organizations, and sometimes businesses, is currently seeking new partners to continue advancing the rights and recognition of people with disabilities in our society by providing audiovisual resources.
The initiative is supported by the Isère Department and several foundations (Mutualité de France-Aesio, L’Archipel des Possibles, etc.).
