Violaine DEMARET, Prefect of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Côte-d’Or

Violaine DEMARET graduated from Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA in 2006, specializing in international and European studies, and from ENA in 2008. She has had a distinguished career in the civil service, working throughout France. 

In fact, she began her career in 2008 as a civil administrator at the Ministry of the Interior, Overseas France, and Local Authorities, and later served as Chief of Staff to the Prefect of Ain. In 2011, she joined the General Secretariat of the Tarn-et-Garonne Prefecture as a seconded civil administrator. Then, starting in 2013, she became a civil administrator on behalf of the Minister of the Interior. In particular, she assisted Bernard Cazeneuve on several issues concerning administration and territorial reform. In 2015, she was appointed State Advisor for Territorial Administration in the office of the Minister of the Interior. She joined the Prefecture of Isère as Secretary General and Sub-Prefect of the Grenoble district in 2017, before being appointed Secretary General of the Prefecture of Nord in 2018.

She was subsequently appointed Prefect of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in 2020, and then Prefect of Vaucluse in 2022. She joined the government as an advisor on domestic affairs and security to Emmanuel Macron in January 2025 before being appointed Prefect of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Côte-d’Or on April 9, 2026.
