Yann ÉCHINARD, Academic Director of the Online Education in European Education and the Certificate in Political Studies
Yann Echinard holds a Ph.D. in Economics, is an associate professor of economics, and serves as Vice President Education at Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA. He is the academic director of two programs: the Distance Learning Program in European Governance and the Certificate in Political Studies. His research focuses on European economic integration. He has published numerous articles in French and international journals (Revue de l’Union européenne, Annuaire Français des Relations Internationales, Reflets et perspectives économiques, Questions internationales…), and has edited several collective works on monetary union and European economic governance (The Eurozone and the Challenges of Fiscal Policy, The Crisis in All Its Forms, The European Union and the United States, What Tax System for the 21st Century).
Due to his personal history—he has suffered from limb-girdle muscular dystrophy since the age of 23—he is active in the field of disability. He considers himself a disability advocate. In this capacity, he has developed, in partnership with other higher education institutions, local governments, associations, and businesses, numerous initiatives on disability aimed at raising awareness and educating as many people as possible.
One notable initiative is the production of documentaries on disability (All Parents, Fallen from the Sky?, We’re No Angels, School for All, Invisible Disabilities, Mental Disabilities, Disability and Work, Disability Disclosure, The Inclusive Society, Disability and Aging, Disability from a Child’s Perspective). These documentaries are freely available.
He should also be involved in local initiatives, since he was elected in his municipality as the deputy in charge of ecological transitions and the implementation of the Metropolitan Area’s Climate, Air, and Energy Plan.
Finally, he has been writing a daily column since March 16, 2020—the start of the lockdown. He posts these columns on the “old people’s social media,” as his son puts it. The first entries were published by Presses Universitaires de Grenoble in a book titled *Around the World in 79 Days: A Lockdown Diary*.
