The rule of law and ecological crises: what kind of justice?

On Thursday November 6, the Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA back-to-school conference brought together a number of speakers on a central issue: understanding how the law can respond to the ecological emergency.

Between the breakdown of the jurisdictional system, the multiplication of litigation and the crisis of legitimacy of the law, this discussion opened up an essential space for reflection on the role of justice in the protection of living beings.

The discussions brought together :

  • Dorian Guinard, lecturer in public law and member of the Biodiversité sous nos pieds association, who spoke about the practical issues involved in environmental litigation,
  • Marie Pochon, MP for Drôme and member of Notre Affaire à Tous,
  • Corinne Lepage, environmental lawyer and former French Minister for the Environment,
  • Jérémie Suissa, Managing Director of Notre Affaire à Tous, who emphasized the new challenges of climate litigation.

This round table, co-hosted by Simon Persico, Director of Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA, and Marine Denis, a doctor of public law specializing in environmental and migration issues, will soon be available on the Youtube channel channel. It follows on from the previous academic year's opening lecture by mathematician Cédric Villani on the theme of "The digital transition: ally or enemy of the ecological transition?".
